Wheelchair Softball

The MDWSSC/Cicero Flyers softball team began playing in 2007.This team was founded to expand access for individuals with disabilities to actively participate in America’s Greatest Pastime.
Since our beginning, the MDWSSC/Cicero Flyers have not only been competitive but consistently improve in national ranking every year. With a 9th place in 2007 and a Division II Championship in 2008 the Flyers are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the national scene.
Many of our players, both past and present, are active members of society influenced both directly and indirectly through the confidence-building techniques one learns in playing sports. One of our major goals is to introduce the sport to children, women and minorities with physical disabilities while also serving as teachers, coaches, and mentors to youth and adults with disabilities.
The game is played on a hard surface parking lot under the official rules of 16-inch slow pitch softball, as approved by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), with certain exceptions, as outlined by the National Wheelchair Softball Association.
